Shoppers will be able to check what stores are open as lockdown lifts using a search tool launched today by Mastercard.
The service, available at www.shopopenings.com, has been built in partnership with data firm Sixth Sense, and will register a shop as “open” if it has taken a payment via Mastercard in the previous seven days.
The site will be updated daily, allowing people to check whether stores are open before leaving home.
Scott Abrahams, of Mastercard, said the service would give a “nearly real-time” view of what shops are suitable to visit.
He added: “Over the coming weeks and months, as our high streets gradually reopen, ShopOpenings.com will offer both consumers and businesses a free and simple, but valuable, way to confirm they are ready for customers to return.”
The site is accessible via computer or mobile phone and will initially be available for searches of shops and businesses in the UK and Italy.
